Amazon Launches Amazon.ie, Its First Dedicated Website for Ireland

Amazon has officially launched Amazon.ie, a new website tailored specifically for Irish customers. This move aims to provide a localised shopping experience, supporting both consumers and Irish businesses.

What’s New for Irish Shoppers?

With the introduction of Amazon.ie, customers in Ireland can now shop from a selection of over 200 million products priced in euros. The new platform promises faster deliveries, easier returns, and the elimination of customs charges and currency conversion fees that Irish shoppers previously faced when ordering from UK or European Amazon sites.

Boosting Irish Businesses

Amazon.ie, will feature a “Brands of Ireland” section that highlights popular local brands such as Barry’s Tea, Bewley’s, and Ella & Jo. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Enterprise Ireland, aims to help Irish businesses expand their reach and grow.

Amazon Prime Now Available in Ireland

In addition to the new shopping experience, Amazon Prime is now available in Ireland through Amazon.ie. Customers can subscribe for €6.99 per month and gain access to benefits such as free delivery, exclusive deals, Prime Day shopping events, Prime Video content, live sports, and gaming perks. Those who previously held a UK Prime membership can switch to the Irish version, with their UK subscription automatically cancelled and refunded.

Amazon’s Growing Presence in Ireland

Amazon has been expanding its presence in Ireland in recent years. In 2022, the company opened a warehouse and distribution centre in Dublin, creating 500 jobs. It now employs approximately 6,500 people across Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda. The launch of Amazon.ie follows the success of Irish SMEs selling on Amazon, which recorded over €170 million in export sales in 2023, with more than half of these sales going outside the EU.

What does this mean for advertisers?

The launch of Amazon.ie is expected to bring new opportunities for advertisers targeting Irish shoppers. With a dedicated Irish platform, businesses will be able to reach local customers more effectively and avoid competition from UK and European sellers.

Amazon advertising will be holding a launch event at the end of April in Dublin, with live ad campaigns expected from May.

Advertisers will be able use Amazon’s Sponsored Ads to boost product visibility, especially in the new "Brands of Ireland" section.

Over the last few years, advertising was possible on Amazon.co.uk from Ireland, but sales were attributed to UK store fronts on Amazon.  On other Amazon owned and operated sites such as Twitch.tv, spends have increased year on year from Core clients looking to activate against a younger gaming audience. Core clients have been utilising the Amazon data available in it’s DSP to build audiences out and target across the open web.

With the launch of ads on Amazon, brands with their own store-fronts on Amazon.ie will be able to activate a full funnel approach both on site and off site, with further opportunities such as Pre Roll Video ads on Amazon Prime expected in the future. For brands who don’t sell on Amazon.ie, opportunities exist using the data within the Amazon DSP across the open web and Amazon owned and operated sites.
