RTÉ Player Reaches Record Streams In 2024

RTÉ has released their top viewed shows on both linear TV and through the RTÉ Player for 2024. According to figures provided by TAM Ireland / Neilson Media, RTÉ got their highest share of linear TV audience in over a decade. In 2024, they reached a share of 27.9% of the TV audience, which beats their previous record of 27.7% in 2013.

There are no major surprises in that The Late Late Toy show was the number one watched TV show last year. However there where some interesting differences between the top linear TV titles and those on the RTÉ player.

RTÉ Player had its best year yet in 2024, with a record 142 million streams, a 42% increase from the previous year. The platform attracted audiences with a mix of Irish and international content, including national events, popular TV series, and a growing library of over 5,000 hours of programming.

RTÉ Player 2024 Top 10 Titles

Interestingly, there are 5 soaps/dramas within the top ten on the RTÉ player whilst the top ten on linear TV is dominated with Live TV. The Late Late Toy Show came in at number one which was then followed by live sporting events across the GAA, Rugby and Football.

This shows that there is a change in consumption behaviour across linear TV vs BVOD. Irish people tend to switch on the TV more for live events whilst rely on BVOD more to catch up on soaps and dramas. With the audiences growing year on year, it will be important for all advertisers to consider what strategy they have in place across BVOD.
