Amazon is shutting down its free ad-supported streaming service

Make it stand out

Freevee, which was initially launched in 2019 as IMDb Freedive, later rebranded to IMDb TV, and finally to Freevee in 2022. The service’s content is being migrated to Prime Video, with new episodes of Freevee's original shows, such as Bosch: Legacy and Jury Duty, now available for non-Prime subscribers. The Freevee brand will be phased out over the coming weeks, and Amazon plans to offer a simplified streaming experience by consolidating content under Prime Video.

Freevee had carved out a niche with original programming and FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels, but the introduction of ads on Prime Video in January 2024 led to a more muddled streaming strategy. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that this decision aims to simplify the viewing experience for customers, stating that the content available to Prime members will remain unchanged. Additionally, non-Prime members will still have access to free content, including Amazon MGM Studios Originals, licensed movies, and a broad range of FAST Channels—now all available on Prime Video.

This shift highlights Amazon's focus on streamlining its video offerings while continuing to provide free streaming options alongside its premium subscription service.

For Ireland, we are still expecting Amazon.ie to launch in Q1 2025. The market is hopeful that Amazon Prime will also launch with their ad offering here to bolster the full funnel capabilities of advertising with Amazon in 2025, though no official launch date has yet been announced.
