Irish companies ‘falling behind’ on AI.

A report from Accenture shows that Irish businesses are falling behind multinationals when it comes to adopting artificial intelligence (AI). While 50% of employees in multinationals have access to generative AI tools, only 38% of workers in Irish companies do. Even fewer, just 24%, use these tools weekly, and only 10% apply them to important tasks like decision-making.

The report points out that many Irish companies are stuck in the early stages of AI adoption, with most struggling to scale their use of the technology across their business. Issues like outdated cloud systems and a lack of digital skills training are holding them back. A significant portion of Ireland’s workforce - over 1.7 million people - will need to be reskilled to fully take advantage of AI.

Despite these challenges, the potential for AI is enormous. If implemented effectively, generative AI could significantly boost Ireland’s economy over the coming years. The public sector could benefit greatly by automating or streamlining tasks, saving billions annually. Industries like life sciences are also expected to see major productivity gains.

At the moment, Irish businesses are primarily using generative AI in areas like IT, customer service, and marketing, with tools such as chatbots and customised training programs. However, the report highlights that focusing solely on automation, rather than empowering employees to take on higher-value tasks, risks leaving substantial economic value untapped in the years ahead.

For advertisers, generative AI offers exciting possibilities, like improving campaign targeting, creating personalised content, and increasing efficiency in how ads are developed and delivered.
